The Obura Award
The Genesis of the Samuel and Hannah Award Cycle
Samuel Ochiel Obura, from an early age has always believed in the value of education, viewing it as his only ticket out of the poverty cycle.
It is this belief in education that drove him to impart the same to his children and through personal resources also assisted many children from his native village to attend school.
It is in continuation of his of the aforesaid that the scholarship was initiated as to give the children in the village a chance to excel in STEM subjects, a passion of Sam Obura.
From this seed grew the awards cycle that gives different donors an opportunity to support students in causes and interests they are passionate about.

Obura's wife, Hanna Zeruiya Awour has been his staunchest supporter.
Making scarifies from the beginning that included getting married and raising five of her husbands siblings.
As a trained teacher, Mrs. Obura, made a name for herself as one who made readers any elementary student through her class could read when they left!
She was an award winning teacher at elementary schools in Nairobi and Nyeri, Kenya as well as Arusha, Tanzania.
Hanna Awour started and ended her career at her local village and the education of village children remaining a passion of hers.
